Summer is in full swing and by the delinquency of this month’s edition of Manly News it has obviously been busy! With village celebrations, parades, camps and celebrating the birth of this great nation, the summer is already flying by. You maybe have noticed school supplies are already at the font of stores and on sale, a stark reminder that summer will soon come to a close. But before back packs, fresh hair cuts and new shoes, many Cass county residents are busily preparing the free fair, Cass County fair beginning August 7, 2024. If you are interested in submitting an entry to the fair check the guidelines in the 2024 Cass County Fair Book!

The yearly fair always creates a sense of nostalgia. The smell of a fresh funnel cakes along is enough to have me mentally spinning on an extraterrestrial shaped ride until I am to dizzy to stand. I remember being able to get the wristband and ride all the rides until the fair shut down. Looking at getting wrist bands for three children causes me to balk. Its not just the thermometer and fair rides that are going up.

As the summer heats up and prices go up, we are all reminded that it is an election year. Inflation has been killing the middle class American. Gas is barely affordable. We are told to buy electric cars but urged to turn down our air conditioning to not put too much pressure on the system. Nothing seems logical. Though it may feel everything is of hand, many citizens feel this is just the time to get our country back to common sense. Make sure to educate yourself on the issues that will be on the ballot in November. Registering to vote is important but knowing what you are voting for matters that much more.

Tickets to this special pre-show event are $10 each and include

💙Access to a private event to hang out with the performer playing the roles of Belle, and other performers as additional members of the castle staff before the show!
The event will start at 5:45 and go 20-30 minutes every Saturday: July 20th, July 27th, and August 3rd. Get tickets for this special event at lofte.org/tickets (click the “Buy Special Event Tickets” button) and don’t forget to get tickets for Beauty and the Beast right after! Everyone can attend the royal tea regardless of age or gender! Tickets can also be purchased by calling the box office at 402-234-2553

Please note: to attend the show and the event patrons must purchase tickets for both. Please be aware that tickets for the Royal Tea are for this special event only while Beauty and the Beast is a part of the regular Lofte season shows. This event is open to all ages, but children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult. Adults accompanying someone 12 or under are not required to purchase a ticket if they are not interested in receiving all that comes included with a ticket (see below).

The goal of Club 50 is to raise enough money to pay off 50% of our mortgage by our 50th season. To accomplish this goal we are asking patrons to donate $50 per month through the end of our 50th season in 2026. Ideally, we’d have at least 390 members – one for each of the seats in the Lofte Theatre!

Club 50 members can join today by donating $50, but if they want to receive the full possible benefits, you’ll want to donate $83.50 a month to have donated enough in time to receive the 2 free tickets to the gala! Not interested in long-term donating? No problem! You can instead donate $600 a year for 5 years, or a one-time minimum donation of at least $3,000 to qualify (please note that if a one-time donation is made, additional donations of at least $50 must be made every year to maintain your Club 50 membership).

Register Each Year

Registration for the 2024 4-H year is now open. Participants must register annually. Email tcavanaugh2@unl.edu with questions. Make sure to register by June 15, 2024 in order to participate in any contest or county and state fair. Visit 4-H Online to register below.

The Cass County Clovers 4-H Club needs your help! Donate your pop tabs to help support the Ronald McDonald Foundation in 2024. Help our kids gather the most tabs from your favorite fizzy beverages by placing them in the receptacle provided at the Village of Manley Post Office.

Summer Good News Club

The squeal of several children could be heard at the village park during the week of June 24-27 as the Summer Good News Club brought the message of Christ to local kids. Through songs, dance, games, and Bible Stories teens trained by the Child Evangelism Fellowship of Omaha. The teens were full of energy and engaged with kids at their level: on the ground. Each day had new songs, tales of missionaries and stories from the Bible for the kids to better know Jesus. Each summer this short vacation Bible schools is hosted by Crossroads Bible Church in Manley, Nebraska.

Independence Day Celebration 2024

On July 4, 1776 56 American delegates signed the Declaration of Independence making official the independent nation now known as the United States of America. By stating “When in the course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the law of nature and of nature’s God entitled them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”

The result of a 2% tax increase from England was a new free nation. A nation that would grow to become a world leader. On independence day, we celebrate the freedoms that many have continued to fight for the past 248 years: life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The American dream is not dead. Americans need to get up and work for it.

Some say there is no way better way to celebrate becoming a new nation than blowing a piece of it up. With that in mind, Chairman Denise Swenson has decreed fireworks can be used through July 6, 2024 from 3:00-11:59 PM. Have a safe and festive holiday. While celebrating the freedoms that many have lost their lives in defense of ensure you are doing YOUR patriotic duty this year. Register to vote and do so this November.

Election Year 2024

The first debate of the presidential candidates, Donald Trump and Joe Biden, left Americans with more concern than when the debate began. Many citizens have the same question regarding our candidates: is this the best we could come up with? Several media outlets, even ones that are traditional Biden supporters, are now questioning the ability of our President to continue in his position for another four years or if he is at the age and stage to be put to pasture. America, this is your year. get to those booths and vote!
