Thank the good Lord for the rain we have so desperately needed. Along with the rain comes the cooler temperatures of fall. Just in time for warm soups and casseroles at the Garey household. We have already had chicken and dumplings, chicken pot pie, and my famous cauliflower casserole. Ok, famous might be a stretch, but at least all my kids love it! It’s the little things like warm, home cooked meals that can make a person’s day.

While food can be comfort, November 5 may be uncomfortable for some. This election seems to be one that has citizens set against citizen. People have passionate zeal for the politicians they find superior. The only thing we can do is our part. Get out and vote in the way that aligns with your morals. Doing research on the politicians and laws that are being considered helps to ensure you are voting the way that supports your ethics. No matter the outcome, I know that Jesus wins. For that, I am thankful.

As November rolls in we are all reminded to be thankful for all of the things we have, then immediately rush out to buy more at great Black Friday prices. I don’t know about you, but I am looking to not add to the clutter in my home but to the love. For years we have limited what we buy our kids each Christmas. It’s pretty simple: Something to wear, something to read, something they want and something they need. Having this in mind as I do holiday shopping helps to keep me from going over budget or buying little frivolous things that will be swept up during Christmas break before school starts again in January.

Halloween in Manley

Madison E. M. Garey

For many years, children have come to expect the unexpected while trick or treating in Manley. Some are very generous handing out treats ranging rom the full sized candy bars to adult beverages. Tricks are also expected while going door to door in the village. In years past, children have received garden goodies, like onions, carrots and potatoes. This year was a sour surprise in all kids getting a lemon in their treat bags! Along with delicious and fun treats, some go all out in decorating for the holiday!

Since moving to Manley over ten years ago, Phillip and Jodi Tapp have added a spooky dimension to our little village. Most years the Tapp’s have gone all out decorating their garage as a haunting. Their effort helps gives Manley that touch of community so desired in a small town. Thank you to Phillip and Jodi for adding to the spirit of Halloween in Manley. The Tapps are grateful to all who came to tour the haunted garage!

Public Hearing for New Village Ordinances

November 6th and 14th at 7 PM the Village of Manley Board of Trustees will be holding public hearings regarding changes to the use of the Special Use Permit of commercial property (6th), Reviewing the recommendation by the village Planning Commission to amending the Manley Zoning regulations, Changing the Zoning on “Tax Lot 9, and instilling Ordinance 2024-3, requiring vacant commercial and residential property owners to be put on a registry of vacancy as well as assessed fines every six months for said vacancies.

A peace has settled in on me, like I have never experienced before. There are a lot of folks out there who need to know Jesus and be saved. That doesn’t mean you are necessarily a bad person, i just means that we all have things in our lives that need to be dealt with- so we can be right with God! The only way to do that is through Jesus.

Don’t worry about going to church right now. You might be thinking, those folks down there at the church wouldn’t accept me anyway- and you are probably right. But it ain’t them folks who are going to save your soul. So it doesn’t really matter what they think about you. All that matters is what Jesus thinks about you. The Bible says He loves you! He loves you enough to have died in your place for all your sins.

Let’s face it, we area ll sinners. We have all blown it, one way or another. Jesus is the only answer to our sin problem. When Jesus was here He chose to hang out with folk like us. Isn’t that amazing?

Jesus, the Holy One, the Creator of the Universe, would want to hang out and run around with a bunch of dirty ol’ fishermen, poor folks, and a lyin’, cheating, tax collector- but he did! he changed their lives.

You might say yea, but you don’t know what I have done. Well, I am tellin’ you, it doesn’t matter what you have done or how many times you have done it. Jesus will still forgive you, taking that load of sin that you have been carrying. He will set you free from whatever “it” is that has been keepin’ you down. He will loft you up out of your pit and set you on your feet so you can walk upright with Him.

This is a choice that everyone has to make for themselves. So, if you are tired and ready for a change, do it! Do it now, today!

The Living Nativity  2024

Looking for a fun, inspirational and family-friendly tradition for you, your family, and your friends at Christmastime? Come on out to The 3B Homestead for the 9th annual event called The Living Nativity.  It’s located just south of Murdock, NE  halfway between Omaha and Lincoln on Highway 1.

The Living Nativity is not a nativity “scene” but a unique and untraditional presentation of the words from Luke 2.  Depending on which day you come, guests drive through the homestead, or walk through the grand 1888 barn where they interact with real stable animals.  Donkeys, Jacob sheep, goats, cattle, rabbits, poultry, and more each have a distinct story to tell which makes The Word at Christmas meaningful and very fun. Wonderful memories are made at The Living Nativity.

Drive-through the Homestead days:  Nov 30, Dec 1, 23, 24 – 11am to 4:40 pm

Walk-through the barn days:  December 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22 – 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Private group days:  Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Dec.  Call to schedule a date and time.

For your planning, it takes about 1½ hours to walk through the barn or do the drive through, and no tickets are needed.  It’s a free event!  Donations are accepted to help cover expenses.

We hope to see you at the farm this Christmas!
