Madison E.M. Garey
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Thank you for patiently waiting for the December edition of Manley News to be published. Winter is slowly setting into the country side. We are regularly waking to grass covered in crystal ice and temperatures so low it’s uncomfortable to be outside unless fully bundled. The short cold days are just right for slowing down, staying in and baking. Though that is what most would like to do, it’s likely not what is happening. Between putting fall decorations away, Christmas decorations up and planning forty seven holiday parties at school, at work, at church, with family, this time can feel far removed from a slow paced regenerative winter. It is from the trees we can take advise this season, take a season off to rest. One should not be constantly in bloom or full of leaves least we turn prickly like the evergreen. Perhaps I need to take a bit of advise from the trees.

Joyful Village Christmas Celebration on December 14th
Madison E. M. Garey
Members of the Village Christmas Committee are excitedly preparing a delightful array of treats, crafts, and activities for the wonderful citizens of Manley to enjoy together! Get ready to welcome the “Big Guy” himself—Santa will be in town, spreading his jolly spirit with plenty of candy and gifts for all the children. Plus, the best part? There’s no charge for taking photos with Santa!
In fact, there’s absolutely no cost for the day’s festivities! Children and adults alike are invited to create their very own ornaments to take home as cherished keepsakes from the 2024 holiday season. And for those who prefer a bit of friendly competition, get ready to play BINGO! If you’d rather sit back and relax, there will be numerous opportunities to enjoy warm cups of hot cocoa while chatting with friends over delicious snacks generously provided by our fantastic volunteers. It’s going to be a joyful celebration for everyone!

New Board of Trustees Members
The regular meeting of the Village of Manley Board of Trustees took place on December 12, 2024. During this meeting, the newly elected members, Joe Shera and Madison Garey, took their oaths of office. Chairperson Denise Swenson and Vice-Chairperson Tim Glas were reaffirmed in their positions for additional terms in 2025.

The Living Nativity 2024
Looking for a fun, inspirational and family-friendly tradition for you, your family, and your friends at Christmastime? Come on out to The 3B Homestead for the 9th annual event called The Living Nativity. It’s located just south of Murdock, NE halfway between Omaha and Lincoln on Highway 1.
The Living Nativity is not a nativity “scene” but a unique and untraditional presentation of the words from Luke 2. Depending on which day you come, guests drive through the homestead, or walk through the grand 1888 barn where they interact with real stable animals. Donkeys, Jacob sheep, goats, cattle, rabbits, poultry, and more each have a distinct story to tell which makes The Word at Christmas meaningful and very fun. Wonderful memories are made at The Living Nativity.

Drive-through the Homestead days: Nov 30, Dec 1, 23, 24 – 11am to 4:40 pm
Walk-through the barn days: December 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 22 – 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm
Private group days: Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays in Dec. Call to schedule a date and time.
For your planning, it takes about 1½ hours to walk through the barn or do the drive through, and no tickets are needed. It’s a free event! Donations are accepted to help cover expenses.
We hope to see you at the farm this Christmas!

More about Dickens’ Christmas Carol: “A traveling travesty in two tumultuous acts.” While the story of A Christmas Carol will be familiar, this rendition is a different and more comedic take on the traditional production! From the bonny shores of England comes the Styckes-Upon-Thump Repertory Theatre Company, a stuffy old traveling troupe embarking on their fifteenth annual farewell tour of the Dickens’ tale. Can the theatre troupe handle the egos of their actors, a precarious set, and constant costume changes, and still manage to redeem old Ebenezer Scrooge by Christmas Day? A fresh twist on the timeless tale, this comedy is a festive rollercoaster of humor, perfect for those seeking a jolly good time this holiday season!
