April showers bring may flowers. What do may flowers bring? June Bugs!

It finally feels like spring has arrived!I am grateful for the warmer weather and look forward to starting potatoes and onions on Good Friday. Things seem to really ramp up in the warmer months. With kids practices, volunteering in the community and at church, and coaching soccer, April will have no days off for the Garey family. The best way I have found is to manage one day at a time. After all, we really only have today.

I find it easy to slip into a depressed state when things feel overwhelming and making a gratitude list each day helps. This is something that my AA sponsor suggested I do. I am currently working on the 4th step of 12 in the program. This is the point where I have to define my character flaws. Looking that deep into one’s self is hard work. Brutal honesty is the only way to get through it. The next part is even harder.

Having to tell of these darknesses to another person is intimidating. What if they just judge me? What if they tell my secrets that I have held so closely for decades? The truth is, it is freeing to let it all go. It is one thing to confess your sin to God, but to another person gives us a different perspective. I have realized I am not the only person with a past. Most of all, there is nothing I have done that cannot be forgiven, if not by the person wronged, but by God. For that I am thankful. If you struggle to quit drinking, consider going to AA. It might be scary at first, but if you work the steps you can and will grow as a person. We are not made to do this life alone. Reach out!

No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; And every tongue that accuses you in judgement you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their vindication is from Me,” declares the Lord.

Severe Weather

Madison E. M. Garey

Living in Nebraska, citizens have experienced their fair share of sever weather. As we head into this storm season it is crucial to be prepared. The first and most important part of preparation is to be informed. Follow your local weather through the National Weather Service of Omaha. In addition to being in the know, make sure to have a well stocked emergency kit ready. Kits should contain water, non-perishable food, batteries and flashlights, first aid supplies, prescription medication, pet needs, blankets, and a battery powered radio.

Another key to being prepared is being aware of local risks when it comes to severe weather. Nebraska can be victim to tornados, severe thunderstorms and flooding. Make sure your family is prepared for these events by having a designed area prepared in the lower level of your home in case of a tornado and practice what to do in case of an emergency. Know where to go and what to do if you get separated. Make sure to practice drills in your home.

If possible prepare your home for severe weather: install storm doors, reinforced windows and tidy any loose outdoor objects before a pending storm. When storm alerts are given make sure to go indoors. Stay away from windows and avoid using electrical appliances. Keep these steps in mind to stay safe and protect your loved ones. Stay safe!

The Lofte Theatre

Our Town

by Thornton Wilder

May 2, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, & 11

Shows start at 7:00 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, and 2:00 on Sundays. The concession stand will open 1 hour before the show starts, and the house will be open for seating at this time as well.

More about Our Town: Described as the greatest American play ever written, this Pulitzer Prize-winning drama of life in the small village of Grover’s Corners has become an American classic and is Thornton Wilder’s most renowned play. The story follows the simple daily lives of the Webb and Gibbs families as their children fall in love, marry, and eventually, in one of the most famous scenes in American theatre, die. Our Town is a play that shares the idea that we live life without really appreciating what it has to offer.
