I am so thankful that the summer season has arrived, even though the actual season does not begin until later this month. The rain has helped turn everything green and I am looking forward to the warmer temperatures. With school ending our days have been full of day trips, playgrounds, writing, baking, and building puzzles. Regardless of how much the children complained about waking early for school, they have yet to sleep in past 7 this summer. These long days give us plenty of time to do chores and have fun, which I appreciate.

Planning Commission Meeting

On May 6, 2025 the Planning Commission held a Public Hearing discussing the recommendation for the application of Special Use Permit; Single Family dwelling, under C-1 General Commercial District Zoning: Village lots 3 & 4 Blk 3, the property formally the village bar. The special use permit was approved with three yes votes, one vote no, and one abstained. The results of the planning commission recommendation were presented a the May 8, 2025 village board meeting.

New Flags

At the May 2025 village board meeting the purchase of 25 new flags and poles were approved for the village. Just before Memorial day weekend, the new flags dressed the streets of Manley. The display of patriotism in our small village is appreciated by many.

New Clerk Needed

The Village of Manley is once again on the search for a new clerk. During the interim time of hiring a new clerk, the village shared to Facebook: “PLEASE NOTE. Due to the resignation of the Village Clerk the office hours will be variable. Please call the office ahead at 402-234-2304 to see if someone is in the office. If you need assistance or have questions please call Denise Swenson, Board Chairman, at 402-677-2587. Thank you for your patience and understanding.”

If anyone is interested in this part time clerk/treasure position, send your resume to Denise at denise_pm@hotmail.com.

Pillage the Village

What is your gift that you would like to share with your community? Have a fever for selling cold drinks and hot dogs? Maybe a shift at the concessions stand will stratch that itch. Perhaps you are a seasoned baker and would like to whip up a dozen or two cupcakes? For this community event, we need help! Even taking one shift, baking cupcakes, or judging a coloring contest would be appreciated! If you are interested in supporting Pillage the Village in 2025, message the Pillage the Village Committee.

If you are interested in volunteering for Pillage the Village email ptvmanley@gmail.com or contact the village office for more information.

June Eating: Summer Pasta Salad

On warm evenings, it’s hard to want to cook over a hot stove. This light, fresh salad may be just what your looking for. Add some canned chicken and it is a main dish!

Why It Works in June:

  • Sweet corn starts appearing in Nebraska markets toward mid-to-late June.
  • Tomatoes and cucumbers are just coming into season.
  • Basil is abundant and fragrant this time of year.
  • It’s light, picnic-ready, and colorful—just like a Nebraska summer.
